August bank holiday. What seemed like a long way off, is now here, which gives us the feeling that the summer is pretty much over. This can be an unsettling feeling for some as it’s the end of warm evenings dinning outside, a change in our routine and a new start for others.
We’re taking some time to reflect on the activities that we’ve enjoyed this summer with friends and family. Thinking about the enjoyment of being amongst those who make us happy and creating memories that we’ll look back on in the months to come. We’re not going to be letting go of the summer easily, we’ll still be enjoying the warmth in the air a little longer before the temperature gets a little cooler and cramming in as many trips to the beach whilst we still can.
As August draws to a close, many parents are nearing the end of the 6 weeks holidays. For some, the excitement of the kids going back to school, means going back to the safe routine they are so used to, yet for others, the fear of the first week is looming. The organisation of getting the uniform ready, bags packed and making sure everyone is at the school gate on time might fill you with fear. You might also be going back to work yourself, which means you regain a bit more of ‘you’ time and you’re stepping back into the routine you’re used to. We’d recommend taking some time before the start of the new term to prepare. There’s nothing more satisfying than knowing that you can relax as everything is in place for the new term. Note down a to do list of all the things that needs to be organised; uniforms, activity schedules and child minder. Prepare for earlier nights and earlier mornings, by starting to go to bed earlier and setting your alarm that little bit earlier now, so that is doesn’t come as such a shock when 6:55am comes around that first morning. Ouch!
A few weeks back we saw those talented individuals gaining their A-level results, securing them a place at their dream University or allowing them to go on to start new careers. A daunting but scary time for many involved. The ecstatic, yet tearful parents who allow their children to fly the nest and the eager teenager who already has their bags packed and is planning their first night out. This can be an unsettling time for all involved and you may feel uneasy in the build up to moving day, but take this as an opportunity to welcome new beginnings and a fresh start. Be supportive of that friend, son or daughter who is taking the next step in their lives and encourage them whilst doing so. A lovely sentiment to remind them of you, is to give them something thoughtful to take away with them. A welcome parcel which contains all their favourite things of food and home comforts. You’ll feel happy and so will they.
