The Scentered team strives to be as sustainable as possible in everything we do. We look for the best ways to make products with the least possible impact on the environment; from the source of products through to the shape, taking the freight impact of raw materials all the way through to disposal.
So why have we recently made a switch in our packaging?
Scentered’s whole team are constantly tasked with looking for progressive improvements across the company, not least the impact on the environment. We recently got in touch with all tea companies across the UK to find out what happens with all of their tea bag cut off waste.
One company explained that only 1% of their waste ends up in landfill, and now we are happy to announce that this 1% now sits with us, as we use it to turn into stuffing for our packaging.
What does this switch mean for our sustainability goals?
The switch adds to the small contributions we continue to make in reducing our impact on planet resources. For years we have been trying to find the most efficient and environmental way to present and protect our beautiful Scentered products when posted. We have been using crinkle-cut recycled cardboard from Raja Pack. Whilst being one of the most eco-friendly ways of packaging goods, it’s expensive, heavy and messy.
The teabag paper is compostable, recyclable, soft and easy to use. We are now working on ways of repurposing the heavy-duty and very solid cardboard roll tubes that support the paper of the teabag.
What's our next step in making Scentered more sustainable?
When we enquired about any additional waste, we were kindly gifted empty heavy-duty, three layered kraft bags that previously contained the tea leaves used to make the teabags.
These Kraft bags will be put to good use while we experiment further by possibly providing branded accessory bags or labels for the products we sell. The possibilities are endless.
What does the packaging look and feel like?
As previously mentioned, the colour of the paper is light brown, which we now refer to as our champagne packaging.
Our newfound alternative source to package stuffing is 1.5th of the weight of the previously used stuffing, saving it from landfill and reducing the cost of waste disposal for others, making a neater and better unboxing experience for our consumers.
