What Are Essential Oils Used For?
Essential oils are more than just a beautiful scent (although they are that too!). When you inhale essential oils your brain actually triggers a physical response by releasing chemicals into your bloodstream such as serotonin and endorphins to help boost your mood, reduce stress, release muscle tension and calm your mind. Almost sounds too good to be true!
If you would like to learn more about the wonderful effect, you can read our blog post ‘What Part of the Brain is Triggered by Inhaling Essential Oils?’.
When you come home from work or a busy day, your home should be a serene space where you can switch off and unwind but oftentimes we see that nagging pile of laundry, dinner that needs to be made and that to-do list that you haven’t quite gotten round to completing. If this sounds a little too familiar, then we might have just the helping hand you’ve been looking for.
Let's dive into a few of our favourite ways to use essential oils at home...
How to Use Essential Oils at Home
1. Essential Oil Balms
When you think of essential oils you may picture loads of tiny bottles with droppers that require you to mix with a carrier oil, prone to leaking, spillage and a little bit too fiddly. This can often undermine their purpose (“aren’t they meant to be calming, and easy to use?!”). One of the reasons we have created Essential Oil Balms is to make them easy to use around the home and on the go, and perfectly blended with complimentary scents that make it quick and easy to use, fit for purpose.
Simply pop your favourite balm in your back pocket, or leave them easy to hand around your house, on your bedside table, at your desk for a quick moment of calm whatever you find yourself doing at home. If you find yourself working from home and beginning to feel tight chested and overwhelmed, you can simply swipe your essential oil balm onto your pulse points, take a deep breath and step back into work more relaxed and focused. Dotted around the home, you can use these balms as constant reminders and mental triggers to take those few moments for yourself.
2. Essential Oil Body Wash
Incorporating essential oils at home can also be as simple as switching up your body wash and body lotion. Using essential oils does not need to involve meditation, crossed legs, and chanting ‘ohmmm’. Here at Scentered we are passionate about making aromatherapy accessible to everybody, yes, even those busy mum’s who struggle to find a few minutes of calm in their day! This is why we have created our DE-STRESS Wash & Lotion Duo. Blended by leading perfumers, this deceivingly simple looking bottle is packed with a remarkably soothing blend of essential oils to help you stay calm and in control at the busiest point of your day. Made with 100% natural ingredients, when you step into your morning shower you will be experiencing fragrance notes of Chamomile, Neroli and Maderin which will help to soothe tension and support feelings of well-being.
Next time you step into the shower, instead of making it a mad dash with your buff puff and body wash flying everywhere, use this time for yourself. Pump our essential oil body wash onto your hands, close your eyes and inhale the essential oils. As you work it into a lather, use this time to empty your mind and be present, honing in on the sensation of the water and bubbles on your skin. This simple ritual can help support you throughout your day by starting off in a positive and calm mind state.
So if you are a lover of essential oils and what to incorporate them into more of your daily rituals, or you are an aromatherapy newbie and looking for a simple way to dip your toe into the soothing world, purposefully fragranced body care could be your perfect solution.
3. Essential Oil Candles
Essential Oil Candles are one of the most popular ways to use essential oils at home. Not only do they make your home smell absolutely divine, but they release calming essential oils into your space, and cast a warm flickering glow about the room. Having essential oil candles dotted around your home can serve as a beautiful reminder of self care when you may need a little pick-me-up. When you are having a family dinner, the soothing touch of a candle can turn a hectic evening activity into a calming ritual that brings you and your loved ones together. The addition of an essential oil candle in the bathroom can turn a cleaning ritual into a spa-like experience that will help you switch off those cogs that are always turning in your brain. Oh, and they look gorgeous on your coffee table too!
